Wild Pistil was conceived as a landscape design practice by artist and avid
gardener, Cary Baker. Originally from Southern Vermont,
Cary began gardening at a young age and was introduced to various methods of sustainable agriculture while attending a high school with a progressive farm and land use program.
Throughout college and immediately following,
she maintained close ties to the horticulture field, spending summers as a crew member on a fruit and vegetable farm and later working as a gardener for an emerging landscape design company
in Boston MA.
Cary now
resides in Brooklyn, NY where she has been converting barren urban environments into imaginative botanical sanctuaries for the past ten years. She received training in horticulture and design through the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens Certificate program and gained valuable hands-on
experience while working as a freelance gardener for the fabulous Brooklyn-based landscape design firm, Ground Works Inc. In parallel time
she has continued to explore built habitats and their impact on the human experience through live performance and sculpture. Cary holds an undergraduate degree from Bard College
in upstate New York and has studied visual and performance-based
art in New York City and abroad.
In 2006 she officially incorporated under the moniker Wild Pistil and has since been busily and successfully
meeting the outdoor greening needs of clients in New York City and the greater metropolitan area. To discuss a gardening project or schedule a site visit,
